Interpret Restore Narrate Reimagine Interpret Narrate Research

Why do we say “Preservation+”?

We are students of architectural and cultural heritage, and our design work adds an interpretive narrative. Our body of work, in and outside of historic districts, is often contextually surprising – yet is always reverent.

To do this, we research, restore, and re-imagine historic fabric, as part of a larger creative approach that yields relevance. We tell compelling stories that emerge as a dialogue between old and new. We interpret traditional materials in contemporary form.

We recognize the cultural and ecological value of historic buildings. We seek creative solutions to adapt and reuse, taking advantage of the inherent embodied energy and carbon while preserving the fabric of our neighborhoods.

Our Preservation+ expertise has involved

  • More than 60+ landmark district approvals
  • Notable new buildings in landmark districts
  • Many adaptive reuse and restoration projects
  • Historic resource analysis

“I want to thank the applicants for a thorough and elegant presentation. Also I want to just put this presentation in context…. I believe… in my 15 years as a commissioner … the application consists of the most number of moving parts that our commission deals with. It is an extraordinary and relatively small application, but it is incredibly comprehensive . . . it’s very strong architecture and beautifully rendered and I think it’s a very, very elegant building.” – LPC Commissioner Bland, upon approving 44 9th Avenue
