BKSK partnered with Washington, D.C.–based SmithGroupJJR to complete the first phase of a two-phase project for New York Law School, encompassing 200,000 square feet of new construction and 150,000 square feet of renovations. The project creates a highly functional academic complex while establishing a renewed physical identity for the School within the dynamic urban context of New York City.

Guided by principles of clarity, transparency, and visibility, the design organizes the new wing around classrooms, faculty offices, student spaces, and the law library. These program elements are unified by a generous lounge and circulation spine extending along a five-level, 200-foot glass façade. The transparent envelope reveals the energy and activity of the School throughout the day and into the evening, projecting an image of an institution that is open, connected, and engaged with the city around it.
