Roxbury House
This year-round family retreat is perched on a hilltop in Roxbury, CT with views south overlooking the rolling hills of Litchfield County. The position of the new house reinforces the historic lot divisions marked by stone walls and overlooks the existing two-acre apple orchard immediately downhill. The main house and detached garage are simple gabled volumes pulled apart to create an arrival threshold. The layout features an open corner entry and open glazed corners facing south and east towards the view. A wrap around porch extends across the kitchen and dining room and turns in the form of a clearstory roof to enclose the living room which projects out of the main house with large windows creating a sense of an elevated, outdoor room. A series of stone retaining walls allow for a pool easily accessed through the walkout cellar level.
