The Surrey Hotel is an existing 16-story building constructed in 1926 by Schwartz & Gross. Located on East 76th Street just west of Madison Avenue within the Upper East Side Historic District, the original hotel was the home to many of New York City’s eccentric public figures and other famous personalities that needed discreet services to retreat from the public and maintain a low profile.

BKSK is leading the renovation/rebranding of the Surrey after conducting a feasibility study that explored expansion options incorporating an adjacent historic townhouse. The study revealed issues and opportunities involved in merging the townhouse property into the adjacent rebranded hospitality project.

The project’s scope includes renovating hotel guestroom floors 3 through 10, residential units on the remaining floors from the 11 to 17 , as well as a restaurant, and full amenities. The full amenities on the second floor consists of spa and gym, undergoing the renovation and the private members’ lounge, undergoing a conversion. The project also includes a rooftop addition and modifications to the façade, with a particular emphasis on updating the ground floor entrance to reflect the building’s past a new entrance within existing window openings and masonry restoration.
