At the intersection of 14th Street and Sixth Avenue, The Village West emerges as a contemporary interpretation of Greenwich Village’s historic architectural language. Designed by BKSK Architects, the building draws inspiration from the neighborhood’s curved masonry forms, turreted silhouettes, and richly textured façades, reimagining these vernacular elements through a refined contemporary lens.

Its sculpted massing is conceived as a composition of bundled towers, organized in distinct vertical strata that respond sensitively to the surrounding streetscape. The gently curving façade follows the movement of the avenue, shaping light, shadow, and perspective with precision while reinforcing the building’s civic presence at the corner. A meticulous study in materiality, the architecture explores both the functional and ornamental qualities of red brick and iron-spot glazed terra-cotta. Recessed and projected brickwork, paired with terra-cotta bands and piers, create a layered depth and tactile richness that shift throughout the day with changing light.

Within this architectural framework, each residence is carefully oriented to maximize natural light, frame expansive city views, and heighten the spatial experience. Interior proportions and detailing establish a quiet balance between openness and intimacy, extending the building’s architectural rigor inward. Materials, textures, and lines create an ongoing dialogue between past and present—honoring the enduring character of the neighborhood while supporting contemporary urban living. The result is a building defined by subtle elegance, craftsmanship, and a timeless architectural presence.
