St. Luke in the Fields ChurchLocated on one of Greenwich Village’s most distinctly historic and verdant blocks, the St Luke’s in the Fields Center is designed to provide a welcoming space for the diverse programs that the Church provides. The building includes a large flexible event space (to host up to 225 people), a full commercial kitchen, gender neutral toilets, and storage to support the variety of activities that the building will host.
The building is designed to be intentionally modest, with the single-story structure nestled behind a salvaged garden wall. The façade expression and materiality are inspired by simple park structures that are common throughout public spaces in the City. Planters and a large green roof reinforce the reading of this building as integral to the garden-like setting, while a central glass entry serves as a beacon to the neighborhood.
The main gathering space is designed to be a warm light-filled space that can adapt to host tutoring programs for local school children, early music recitals, LGTBQ art programs, sit down dinners for 150 people as well as the Community Closet, which distributes clothing and toiletries to those in need. The project was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) in 2025.
