When the Turtle Bay Music School moved 13 blocks south from their home of 83 years, their iconic red doors came with them, as did their standard of excellence and commitment to their community. Now, with 50% more usable space than before, they have been able to launch a music-centered preschool, increase their overall flexibility by adding group teaching rooms, create a right-sized and welcoming auditorium, and introduce a host of informal gathering spaces in an ADA compliant space.

The new space provides an enhanced experience for students, families, and community members by adding five large group teaching rooms, 13 studios, a bright auditorium, and places to gather throughout the facility. The school’s high-quality programming, from private lessons, early childhood development programs, group classes, free concerts, and community programs for ages 2-102, continue and the school is open seven days a week.

“TBMS has been providing excellent music education and experiences to the community for 93 years,” said Executive Director Lorna Jane Norris. “This bold new chapter will allow us to better fulfill our mission by being physically accessible for all populations and abilities, and equip us with the space we need to expand our existing programs and deepen our impact through new initiatives. We live in a time when people are looking to music for healing, joy, comfort and moreover, community. We have to provide a space where everyone can be a part of that.”

TBMS President Jeffrey Schlosser added, “The needs of our community, from those that are very young to our senior citizens, are our first priority in building out the school. We know how important it is to have a welcoming, safe, comfortable place to engage with the arts – from the exciting addition of a music-focused preschool to the full range of our exceptional programs. This beautiful new space will provide the environment we can grow into over the next 100 years.”
