Located in an illustrious pre-war apartment building overlooking New York’s East River, this apartment had been derelict for some time and required a complete gut renovation. A young professional couple acquired it with a vision to transform it into a gracious home in which to raise their new family. BKSK took note of the apartment’s indelible asset of a series of well-proportioned rooms, each with spectacular vistas of the river. The new design sought to preserve the historic grandness of those rooms while quietly weaving in a contemporary spatial flow and aesthetic. Rich, simply designed millwork links the diverse rooms and frames the awe-inspiring views. BKSK’s Interior Design team selected all new furniture and accessories to complement the architecture and reflect the couple’s interest in singular early modern pieces and contemporary furniture and art.

"We wanted a cobalt blue coffee table, which is not easy to find, so our architect, BKSK, ended up designing a custom one for us. One section of it is removable, so you can move it around the room and use as a smaller table, which is quite clever!"
