40 Peck Slip is the home for the Superior Officers Council, which manages the benefits for Captains and Lieutenants of the New York City Police Department. Their new home in a historic structure in the  South Street Seaport  reflects the SOC’s pride in the city that they serve. The 4 story building allows for individual identity for the different unions, and shared conference space with an expansive view of the Brooklyn Bridge. The client group took great pride in the design of their new home- wanting to create a welcoming place for their members, while using their resources wisely. Access to natural light for all spaces, and maintaining the materiality of the original structure were important design goals. The building is in a flood zone, and the ground floor materials (porcelain tile, cement board walls) were selected for their resiliency.
