The Lambaye Learning Center is an IFLA Green Library Award Finalist
The Lambaye Learning Center has been recognized by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) as a runner up in their 2020 Green Library Awards competition. “IFLA is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession.” Congratulations to the design team, Center founder Amary Seck and Library Director Assane Fall, Center staff, Students for Senegal who initiated this project and brought it to life, and the entire extended BKSK team many of whom were able to be together for the opening ceremony in February.
Entitled “An Ecological Learning Center”, the submission summarizes some of the sustainable and efficiency strategies used in the Learning Center’s design that are benefiting students, teachers, and other users of the Center as well as the larger Lambaye community. These include furniture made from recycled plastic by Bibi Seck, a rainwater management/reuse system, a waste treatment system and shading/daylight strategies.
