LPC Approval for St. Luke’s Center

A modern, single-story brick building with large windows stands behind trees along a busy street. People walk on the sidewalk, and cars drive by in front of the building, under a clear sky.

On November 25, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for the new St. Luke’s Mission Building in Greenwich Village.

Located on a historic, verdant block, the new building provides a welcoming home for the Church’s diverse community programs. The modest, single-story building is set behind a salvaged garden wall and includes a flexible event space for over 200 people, a commercial kitchen, gender inclusive toilets, and support spaces. Inspired by simple park structures, the design integrates planters, a green roof, and a central glass entry that connects the building to its garden setting. The light-filled main space adapts to uses ranging from tutoring and music recitals to community dinners and the Community Closet, which distributes clothing and toiletries to those in need.

Stay tuned for future progress updates. Learn more about the project.
