The Twenty Two New York Named a Finalist in the Architizer A+Awards

We’re thrilled to share that The Twenty Two New York has been named a Finalist in the Architizer A+Awards for Commercial Adaptive Reuse.

The transformation of 16 East 16th Street reimagines an 1891 YWCA dormitory by R. H. Robertson as a nine-story, 80,000-square-foot boutique hotel and private club at Union Square. The project pairs preservation with contemporary design, including a reconstructed sandstone ground floor and a reinterpretation of Robertson’s unbuilt upper story through a glass curtain wall screened by ultra-high-performance concrete.

Developed through full-scale mock-ups, the new façade conceals a three-story vertical addition while maintaining the depth and character of the original building. Historic masonry is retained throughout the unusually deep site, balancing restoration and innovation within the Ladies’ Mile Historic District. The property now includes 72 guestrooms, a members’ lounge, multiple dining venues, bars, and rooftop terraces.
