Bronx HEArts Center Reaches Major Milestone

A diverse group of people pose in front of a colorful mural outdoors, wearing rain ponchos and holding trash bags, with “HEARTS CENTER” in bold letters on the ground in front of them.

2025 marked a breakthrough year for the HEArts Center, the holistic hub for health, education, and the arts envisioned with the community since 2013. In December, New York State announced $2.5 million in funding for the project—bringing total support to $24.45 million—and the NYC Council approved a 99-year lease for the Mott Haven-Port Morris Community Land Stewards’ HEArts Center. With EW Howell on board as general contractor, the project is ready to move forward with redevelopment of the former Lincoln Recovery Center, advancing the health, education, arts, and culture of the South Bronx.

Thank you to:

  • Councilmember Diana Ayala, who has helped raise $15.25 million.
  • Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, who has helped raise $1 million.
  • New York State Senator Jose Serrano, who has helped raise $1.2 million.
  • The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for their recent $2.5 million grant.
  • The New York State Energy and Research Development Authority for their $2 million grant.
  • The NYS Empire State Development agency for their $2.5 million grant.
