Bronx HEArts Center Breaks Ground

Construction is officially underway at the Bronx HEArts Center, a new 27,000-square-foot community hub in the South Bronx designed by BKSK and expected to open in 2028.

The project transforms the long-vacant former Lincoln Recovery Center into a community-led destination for health, environmental education, arts, and workforce development. The site carries a significant history of community activism, including the legacy of the Young Lords, who occupied the building in 1970 as part of their fight for medical self-determination and greater access to healthcare for Puerto Rican and Latino communities in the South Bronx.

Led by South Bronx Unite and the Mott Haven-Port Morris Community Land Stewards, the HEArts Center will bring together spaces for the arts, education, community health, and green jobs. The new facility will include a performance theater, practice rooms, a culinary arts kitchen, and workforce training spaces.

BKSK is proud to be part of a project that builds on this history while creating new opportunities for the South Bronx.
