Inhabitat highlights Citizen and its support of green lifestyles
Just last month, Citizen became the latest project in our portfolio to achieve LEED certification. Inhabitat was quick to pick up the news, sharing the milestone in a piece titled “Chelsea condo strikes LEED Gold for its emphasis on healthy living and indoor air quality.”
The project’s LEED Gold rating acknowledges the design’s accomplishments in areas such as reduced energy usage and improved indoor air quality. For example, the use of MERV-13 level filtration ensures significant reduction in building users’ exposure to air pollutants. Among the project’s other sustainable characteristics are abundant access to natural light, low flow fixtures, and bicycle storage for all tenants. To quote Inhabitat, “[e]very design detail of the Citizen, from its exterior envelope to its carefully placed entries and janitorial spaces, ensures a green lifestyle.”

Team behind sustainable Chelsea condo strikes “Gold”
After a successful collaboration between BKSK and Anbau on Harsen House, the first residential building on the Upper West Side to achieve LEED certification, the two reunited to craft another high performance, site-specific residential building with exceptional indoor environmental quality. The result is Citizen, a 16-story market-rate condominium at 124 West 23rd Street that earned LEED Gold certification earlier this month.
One of many projects in BKSK’s portfolio to achieve recognition for its environmentally robust design approach, Citizen has received a LEED NC Gold certification, the second highest level of certification granted by the U.S. Green Building Council for new construction projects. This designation acknowledges the project’s accomplishments in areas such as improved indoor air quality, reduced energy usage, and the promotion of sustainable lifestyles by both residential and commercial tenants. Congratulations to the full project team on this exciting accomplishment!
